It makes me sick to see society change into a self-centered, self-worth, "I want what I want when I want it" way of thinking.
But honestly, why should I be surprised? God's Word tells us that the world is going to do this.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.(1 John 2:15)
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. (1 Corinthians 3:18)
There are so many verses in the Word that describe that the world is not going to get any better.
2 Timothy, chapter 3 talks about men being "lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." (v2-4)
One thing that has been on my mind to write and discuss on this blog is being a woman in today's world.
I don't have anything against upholding women and treating them (in certain ways) the same way as men. We should take care of others as we would want to be treated.
God created us all to be His image-bearers.
In fact, let's hop back into the beginning and see what being an image-bearer is.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement. Then the Lord God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. (Genesis 1:1, 26 2:18, 22)
I'm going to pause right here and share something I found rather interesting while I was studying this. Read back to where God said that He is going to make a helper as his complement in verse 18 of chapter 2.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.
The Hebrew word used for 'helper' is the word Ezer ("ay-zer "). It does not suggest 'helper' as in 'servant,' but helper as in savior, rescuer, essential companion.
Cool fact → The word Ezer is only used 21 times in the Old Testament. 2 times it refers to Eve, 3 times it is referring to other people and then 16 times it's referring to God.
God is our ultimate Helper.
Our Savior, rescuer, protector, essential companion.
Eve is the ezer to Adam. God is the ezer to us. (I'm not trying to say that women are equal as God, no, keep digging with me.) God created Adam to be missing something (Genesis 2:18). God created us to have a missing a part as well. He knew that we would need Him because of the fall of man. An ezer. A perfect companion. Himself.
Adam and Eve/man and woman are reflections of Himself. Image-bearers.
Sometimes I get to sneak away and hide in my London for a little bit (that's my car's name, btw!) While I was hiding away one day I was reading through Genesis. I found that so immensely beautiful that I wept. Sometimes I think that I've read all that I needed to in the Bible. And then when I re-read a verse that I've read before it's different. Like it changes.
God's Word is a living, breathing, truth that the world needs to hear.
As a woman, I know that being submissive is not easy. In fact, we were designed to be equal to man in the garden. In the perfect place, God originally crafted for us to live in. But the need to be self-sufficient outweighed the desire to be content with just Him.
Once sin entered everything is different.
Your desire will be for your husband, yet he will rule over you. (Genesis 3:16b)
Women really do think a lot about their future husbands. At least most of them do. (I definitely do!) I just finished a book with my bible study girls on Love Defined by God. So we've been talking a lot on the topic of boys and relationships. The fact that we desire a man in our lives is evident in creation. He gave us a promise that we would have a desire for our husbands. But then He says that our husbands will rule over us.
Society has labeled this as a big no-no. Most of the time when things blow up out of context from God's Word it is because we have rearranged it to make us feel better.
Who wants a man to rule over you? Nobody.
It's not our natural nature. Why? Because originally God designed us to be equal with man. But we chose to sin in the garden. Therefore, everything is now changed.
Being a woman is no easy task. I can't imagine what men go through. We are so different. Yet, we all present the image of God. How is that possible?
Man and woman are reflections of God. We are similar yet completely opposite. Masculinity and femininity both have respectful and beautiful characteristics. Read more on femininity.
Mankind, He has told you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)
